Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

Good News Real Estate Inc., Brokerage ("Good News RE," "we," "us," or "our") is a RECO-registered real estate brokerage operating in Ontario, Canada. We collect, use, and disclose personal information in accordance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable Ontario privacy law.

2. Information We Collect

• Identity information: name, date of birth, government-issued ID details
• Contact information: email address, phone number, mailing address
• Transaction information: property addresses, offer prices, closing dates, financial terms
• Financial information: source of funds, income range, deposit amounts (for FINTRAC compliance)
• FINTRAC-required information: occupation, Politically Exposed Person (PEP) status, third-party determination, beneficial ownership for corporate clients
• Portal activity: showing requests, document views, deadline interactions
• Communications: emails, messages, and notes exchanged with your agent

3. Why We Collect It

• To provide real estate services — representing you in buying, selling, or leasing property
• FINTRAC / PCMLTFA compliance — identity verification, AML screening, and reporting obligations under federal law
• TRESA / RECO compliance — maintaining the transaction file required for six (6) years
• Client portal — giving you secure access to your transaction status, documents, and showings
• Communication — updates, reminders, and invitations related to your real estate transaction

4. Legal Basis for Processing

We collect your personal information with your express or implied consent when you engage us for real estate services, or as required by law (FINTRAC/PCMLTFA identity verification, RECO record-keeping). You may withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions.

5. Who We Share It With

• FINTRAC — as legally required for Large Cash Transaction Reports (LCTR), Electronic Funds Transfer Reports (EFTR), and Suspicious Transaction Reports (STR)
• RECO — if requested as part of an audit or investigation
• Other brokerages / lawyers — as necessary to complete your real estate transaction
• Service providers — cloud hosting (Replit), email delivery, AI processing — under data processing agreements
• We do not sell your personal information

6. Retention

Transaction records are retained for six (6) years as required by TRESA/RECO. FINTRAC-required records are retained for five (5) years from the date of the transaction or the date the business relationship ends, whichever is later. Other personal information is retained only as long as necessary for the purposes collected.

7. Your Rights

• Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
• Correction: Request corrections to inaccurate or incomplete information
• Withdrawal of consent: Withdraw consent for non-mandatory processing (note: we may be unable to continue providing services)
• Complaint: File a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada

8. Email Communications (CASL)

Commercial electronic messages (e.g., your portal invitation, transaction update emails) are sent with your express or implied consent under Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). Every message includes an unsubscribe mechanism. To opt out, click the unsubscribe link in any email, or contact hello@gnre.co. Unsubscribing from marketing emails does not affect legally required communications.

9. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards including encrypted connections (TLS), hashed portal credentials, and role-based access controls. In the event of a breach that creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as soon as feasible, as required by PIPEDA.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by posting the updated policy on this page with a revised "Last updated" date.
